Scope of Work
Orbis is proud to have supported Serica Energy Chinook Limited with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for the proposed Kyla subsea development in the Central North Sea within the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS). The proposed Kyla development will comprise wellhead/tree, valve skid, pipelines (production and gas lift), and an electro/chemical/hydraulic and control umbilical.
Kyla (previously developed as ‘Kyle’) is a ceased-production oil field. Serica proposes to develop the Kyla field via a single subsea production well, tied back to one of the existing Bittern manifolds by an 8-inch carbon steel production pipeline (ca. 12 – 13.2 km in length). Kyla production, once tied back to the Bittern, will be co-mingled with Bittern production and routed via the existing Bittern pipelines to the Triton FPSO. Kyla production will be processed on Triton with oil exported as part of the Triton FPSO blend via shuttle tanker and sales gas routed to the St Fergus terminal via the Fulmar gas pipeline. First Oil is targeted for Q3 2028.
The EIA was undertaken in accordance with the Offshore EIA Regulations, as well as the new DESNZ supplementary EIA guidance for assessing the effects of downstream scope 3 emissions on climate from offshore oil and gas projects, published following the Finch judgement, 2024.
The Kyla Field Development Environmental Statement was submitted to OPRED for evaluation and public consultation in April 2026.
A summary of the project is available on the GOV.UK website, accessible here.
