Scope of Work
Orbis is proud to have supported Ithaca SP E&P Limited with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for the proposed Tornado subsea gas development in the Faroe-Shetland Channel, West of Shetland.
Tornado will comprise up to three subsea production wells tied back to the existing Greater Laggan Area network infrastructure at Tormore (subject to commercial negotiations) via a new production pipeline and control umbilical (c. 86 km in length). Produced fluids will be processed onshore at the Shetland Gas Plant with liquid condensate piped to the nearby Sullom Voe oil terminal for further processing.
The EIA was undertaken in accordance with the Offshore EIA Regulations, as well as the new DESNZ supplementary EIA guidance for assessing the effects of downstream scope 3 emissions on climate from offshore oil and gas projects, published following the Finch judgement, 2024.
The Tornado Field Development Environmental Statement was submitted to OPRED for evaluation and public consultation in February 2026.
A summary of the project, alongside the full Environmental Statement, is available on the GOV.UK website, available here.
